Suzzan Hughes Kennedy
Since my family and myself have our roots in the military, moving has been a normal part of our lives. As a result, my oldest son and his family (two granddaughters and 2 grandsons) live in Williamsburg, Virginia, and my younger son and his family (2 grandsons) live in Austin, Texas, not too far from my hometown of Copperas Cove. My husband and I live north of Sweetwater, Texas.
I taught students from 6th grade to 12th grade for twenty years in both the Snyder and Roscoe school systems. Of course, my favorite subject to teach is art! I teach privately now in the Sweetwater area out of my kitchen studio.
Personal Information:
I feel extremely honored and blessed to be a part of the EFC Worship Art Team. The Lord has healed my soul and inspired me to share this love, healing, joy, and the beauty of his creation through all of my art. It is difficult for me to separate my art into spiritual or secular categories because God exists in all of my work. My worship art tends to be more ethereal, atmospheric, impressionist and/or expressionist and it definitely is full of color.
My area of specialization at Georgia State was ceramics. I loved painting the glazes on top of each other and seeing how they looked once the kiln door was opened. The wonder and surprise of seeing what the fire created in my work was nothing compared to seeing what the Holy Spirit does through his artists during Worship. Worshiping through art is akin to a person speaking in a native language. I am ever grateful for the healing God has brought me and for the privilege to serve Him in this way. I pray this artwork draws people to God and His love for them.
Color motivates me; I love mixing it up on the palette and on the canvas. Acrylics remain my favorite medium, so far, but mixed media comes in a close second. It is the processes of creating , experimenting, and learning new art methods and products I love. I have a few favorite pieces. They are often not my best, but my first attempts and are related to a place, event or person. When I am doing realism, I work from one or more photographs for inspiration, always thinking of the mood I want to evoke in the finished piece.
